Historical Fiction at its best
A very well written book that should be required reading for high school students. Elaine captures the mood of the colonists as they faced the loss of everything they had worked so hard for. The British and Hessian soldiers were ruthless.

Really enjoyed the characters and the historical setting
Really enjoyed the characters and the historical setting. Well written. Strong, believable women dealing with difficult times. I especially liked they way the plot plays out against the history and geography of the Great South Bay. I could see this book as appealing to both young adult and adult readers.

Great Historical Fiction
I really enjoyed this book. I'm from Long Island but didn't know much about its history during the Revolutionary War. This book is clearly well researched. It's a good read. My only complaint is that I would have liked a map to position some of places.

SAYVILLE HISTORICAL SOCIETY
Elaine has spoken at the Sayville Historical Society about her books. We look forward to her coming as her presentations are always well received. The subject matter is interesting, her program is well thought out and is not only educational but entertaining.
